Cancellation and Policies

Payment Policy

Room rates are based on double occupancy. A portable cot and/or single fold away bed is available onsite (limited availability – an extra fee may occur).
The person registering at check-in must be a minimum of 18 years of age and at least one adult of 18 years or older staying in booked accommodation room(s) must be always present.

A valid (government authorised) photo ID may be required upon check-in.

A valid credit card is required to secure your reservation.

On check-in, our reception staff will take a credit card pre-authorisation. This is only an authorisation, and the final bill will be settled upon checkout. The authorisation, if not used, is released at the time of check out. Due to some banks processing times, it may take up to five working days to appear in your account.
If using a debit card, full pre-payment will be taken on check-in along with a $200.00 bond. ID will be required.
Cash is not accepted for authorisation or payment without a valid credit card being present. Guests are welcome to pay cash for their bill however a credit card is also required on check in for any incidentals.

Cancellation Policy

Should you wish to cancel your reservation, bookings secured by credit card or company charge will be charged the first nights’ accommodation in the event of a non-arrival, or if cancellation advise is less than 48 hours before arrival.

Non-refundable deposits securing reservations will not be refunded in the event of a cancellation at any time.

Credit Card Surcharge

All payments made by credit card will incur a transaction fee reflecting bank charges incurred by the hotel for card payments.

Current fees are 3% of the transaction total for Visa, Mastercard, Diners, American Express and JCB cards.
Fees are subject to change and applicable fees will be confirmed on check in. Payment by cash and EFTPOS do not incur transaction fees.

Non-Smoking Policy

Smoking or vaping is strictly prohibited.

Smoking and vaping is permitted off the premises only, e.g. Jervois Street. Sands of Kawhia has a non-smoking policy in all rooms and public areas.

A minimum of a $180 fee will be charged for any appropriate cleaning and spoilage costs. Guest may be asked to leave without refund of accommodation costs.

Group Bookings

All group and New Zealand public holidays require a 2-night minimum stay.
Cancellation policy is 30 days prior to arrival. If cancellations are received after this date, a full cancellation fee applies.
Please contact the hotel directly if you wish to cancel your reservation.

Pet Policy

Pets and animals are not permitted at Sands of Kawhia, except for service animals. Please contact us if you will be bringing a service animal with you during your stay.

Personal Belongings

Sands of Kawhia housekeeping staff will service your room daily (unless instructed otherwise). Your bathroom linen will be changed, rubbish emptied, surfaces and dishes cleaned, and bed(s) made.

House Rules

Property damage, spoilage and/or breakage will incur in a minimum fee of $180 being charged to the guest.
For the safety of guests and staff, the hotel reserves the right to refuse to serve guests due to intoxication.
In circumstances where staff judge the level of intoxication to be such that it may be unsafe for the individual concerned to stay at the hotel, or for staff or other guests to be around that person, the intoxicated guest may be asked to leave without refund of accommodation costs.
Other than as provided for by the legislation and as follows, I agree that the hotel accepts no responsibility whatsoever, irrespective of cause, for loss or damage to motor vehicles or guest property.
To ensure a restful stay for all our guests, the hotel enforces a strict zero tolerance noise disturbance policy between 10pm – 7am. Parties and loud gatherings are not permitted in guest rooms.

Covid-19 Policy

In the interests of protecting both staff and guests, the Sands of Kawhia Hotel reserves the right to request a guest displaying Covid-19 symptoms to self-test and contact the Healthline as soon as possible.

In some cases, we may choose to ask the guest(s) to leave the premises immediately. Any money paid is non-refundable.
